High pitched Ruan, or Gao Yin Ruan is the smallest instrument in the Ruan family. The pitch of the instrument is the highest among all the Ruans. It sounds a like the mandolin as well.

Xiao Ruan is the second smallest instrument in the Ruan family. Xiao is Chinese for 'small'. The pitch of the instrument is higher than the Zhongruan but lower than the high pitched Ruan. It sounds a little like the mandolin.
